Raiders Show Promise vs. 49ers

The Las Vegas Raiders faced off against the San Francisco 49ers for their second pre-season game, which was charged with the intensity typical of a regular season rivalry. This was particularly true when the Raiders were based in Oakland, in the Bay Area.

The first drive of the game was a good sense of how the game was going to go. Brock Purdy and the The San Francisco 49er starting offense took the field, and it was almost like a game of chess. San Francisco was able to have some positive plays, but then there was a string of defensive stops, spearheaded by Maxx Crosby and Thomas Booker who just joined the team recently, via trade with the Eagles, and has already made some contributions early in last weeks game vs. Seattle.

We were really able to see a good extended look at the start an office for the Las Vegas raiders as quarterback, Geno Smith was standing behind the pocket and able to get the ball out with precision to targets such as Brock Bowers, Tre Tucker and Jakobi Meyers. The one connection that we saw that is looking dangerous is Geno Smith to Dont'e Thornton Jr. There was back-to-back passes to him when the timing was just barely off, but there would have definitely been a touchdown.

In the second, and final drive from the starters it was all eyes on Ashton Jeanty as he was running wild on the 49ers in order to cap it off with a touchdown marking his first in the NFL and with the Raiders. As Las Vegas neared halftime Aidan O'Connell orchestrated a drive that highlighted rookie Jack Bech, resulting in the Raiders taking a 13-10 lead.

The game ultimately came down to a battle of the kickers, but it was San Francisco who was able to come out the victors with a Jake Moody field goal to give the 49ers a 22-19 victory.

Preseason Game Two Individual Points

  • Jeremy Chinn continues to be a standout on the defense so far, in terms of additions this season, as he has been looking very good up to this point and even was able to secure an interception from a pass from Mac Jones in the game against the 49ers.

  • Asthon Jeanty was able to showcase his skills as he ran for 33 yards on 7 carries with a touchdown to showcase for it. He was rushing hard, lowering his shoulders, and bouncing defenders off of him.

  • Aidan O'Connell has had a rough time in the 2025 pre-season. He has struggled with some of the reverse players for the Raiders. In the game vs. the 49ers he threw another interception and was sacked twice for a loss of 17 yards total.

  • Cam Miller has continued to be a bright spot as he connected with his apparent favorite target Shedrick Jackson a few times for a total of 28 yards on three passes. He was able to get the team in position to have a chance to take the lead, but an interception was the only blemish on his performance today of 2/6 completed pass for 25 yards coming late into the game.
