San Jose Earthquakes Continue Historic Run, Advance in U.S. Open Cup

Updated: 1 hour ago

The San Jose Earthquakes have started off 2026 in historic fashion, and they have continued to find ways to win no matter who is on the pitch and no matter the opponent.

San Jose has already had some major wins this season defeating the likes of Vancouver Whitecaps, LAFC, and more during their run, and they do not seem to have an end in sight.

In all competitions they currently are 11-1-0 with 11 wins and one loss in a record including the U.S. Open Cup and MLS Regular Season play.

GAME RECAP VS MINNESOTA UNITED FC (U.S. OPEN CUP)

This weekday game vs Minnesota United FC poised a challenge for the team as historically they haven’t had the best record against them, but all reasons of optimism were there. The first half of the matchup leaned heavy into the favor of Minnesota, in terms of possession, but sometimes it takes a single moment to change things. That’s exactly what happened for the Quakes as Beau Leroux was in the perfect position to be able to opening up the scoring and score a screamer in the 15th minute which gave San Jose a 1-0 lead into the half.

The second half mimicked other Quakes games this season in which they turned it up a notch and go straight to an attack mode that’s almost desperate, but in the most confident way you could be.

The Quakes surrendered two goals from Minnesota, including one being an own goal, and it allowed Minnesota to take advantage of some of the possession they continued from the first half. After the scores, San Jose snapped right back into it with an immediate ball that deflected in for Jack Skahan who has been another part of their recent success.

Then shortly after Beau Leroux secured his brace with a goal in which it gave the Quakes the lead 3-2. He jumped the railing, right next to me, and celebrated with the fans apart of the Fault Line supporters group. PayPal Park was going crazy, and that same energy repeated itself when Ousseni Bouda broke free clear from the Minnesota United defense and waited for Niko Tsakiris to get in position for an easy tap in. The Quakes went on to hold the lead for the 4-2 win.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES CONTINUE MAKING HISTORY

Does San Jose Earthquakes have absolutely change their entire identity after a very up and down season last year. The team seems to be able to put out results no matter the scenario. We have seen San Jose with come major comeback wins, defeat tough opponents, and play top tier football.

The team has won every single game up to this point except for one 1-0 loss vs Seattle. Fans seem to be forgoing the optimism, and fully believing in this team. The energy around the stadium from the fans just proves that we are witnessing something that is not been seen before. You have a different contributor every game, and this is a clear example of a team playing like a team. They are playing very unselfishly and allowing for others to contribute with people like Daniel Munie, a defender, scoring goals to like of Timo Werner giving assists to Bouda, and even people like Ousseni Bouda himself giving Niko a tap-in goal on Tuesday.

This team is already demonstrating their potential to be exceptional, providing every reason to believe they could possibly win the U.S. Open Cup, the Supporters Shield, and become a significant contender in the MLS Cup playoffs.
